FIRST RESPONDER LEVEL CERTIFICATION
The Certified First Responder Exam comprises 50-70 scored items, with candidates given 1.5 hours to complete the test. Also referred to as Emergency Medical Responder, First Responder, or Rescuer, individuals at this level have undergone approximately 40 to 200 hours of prehospital care training. The certification is tailored to assess the knowledge and skills of individuals at the first responder level, focusing on their ability to effectively respond to medical emergencies and provide initial care. Questions on the exam are specifically designed to evaluate competency in this specialty area of prehospital care, emphasizing practical skills and knowledge relevant to the first responder role. Candidates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in key areas such as basic airway maneuvers Initial primary and secondary assessments, management of immediate life-threatening injury, illness, and exposures Triage, incident command, basic vehicle extrication, and patient packaging. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), crew resource management, and safe operation of emergency vehicles.
